Tax Section 179 updates for BGMC

Business Owners Save on Vehicles at Brickell Buick GMC with Section 179

In 2025, the federal government adjusted Section 179 and Bonus Depreciation limits for businesses looking to invest in their companies. When you purchase a vehicle for your business at Brickell Buick GMC, you can save even more with the changes this year.

How Section 179 Works

Section 179 and Bonus Depreciation are provisions in the tax code that help businesses save money on business equipment purchases. Being able to deduct the cost of purchasing a vehicle for business use directly lowers taxable income and the amount of tax that is owed. New and used vehicles for sale at Brickell Buick GMC are eligible for at least a partial deduction. You must purchase the vehicle and place it into service by December 31st, 2025, to claim the deduction for the 2025 tax year, and there are caps on the total deductions allowed.

Section 179 and Bonus Depreciation Caps for 2025

  • Deduction Limit: Increased from $1.22 million to $2.5 million
  • Phase-Out Threshold: Increased from $3.05 million to $4 million
  • Full Phase-Out: Increased from $4.25 million to $6.5 million
  • Expanded Eligibility: Now includes EV charging infrastructure, battery storage, and more
  • Bonus Depreciation: Was set to phase out completely in 2027, but it is now permanently restored to 100percent off the purchase price on top of the Section 179 deduction

Which Vehicles Qualify for Section 179 at Brickell Buick GMC

Section 179 rules are generous, allowing businesses to save on equipment, furniture, and vehicles. The deduction amount is based on the vehicle's gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWRs) or whether they've been upfitted for a specific work purpose like ambulances, vans with more than nine seats, tow trucks, etc. As long as the vehicle is used for business purposes at least 50 percent of the time, it can qualify for a full or partial deduction and bonus depreciation up to the full cost of the vehicle.

Deduction Limits Based on GVWR:

  • Passenger vehicles (GVWR ≤ 6,000 pounds): $20,200 max deduction.
  • Heavy SUVs/trucks (GVWR > 6,000 pounds): Eligible for full Section 179 and bonus depreciation.
  • EVs and charging infrastructure: Now eligible under expanded Section 179.
