2027 GMC Canyon vs. Sierra 1500 Size: What to Measure Before Parking in Brickell

In GMC Canyon vs Sierra 1500 size, the 2027 Canyon Crew Cab is shorter than any 2027 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab. Here are GMC's published dimensions, the gaps in them, and how to check your own garage before you choose.
- The Canyon Crew Cab is shorter than any Sierra 1500 Crew Cab. GMC lists the 2027 Canyon Crew Cab at 213.2 inches long. The shortest 2027 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab is about 233.1 inches.
- The Sierra is wide with its mirrors out. GMC lists about 96.9 inches including the mirrors and about 81.4 inches without them.
- GMC does not publish garage fit. Your building's posted clearance and your space are the numbers that decide it. Measure them before you shop.
- The Sierra tows more. It offers three cabs and towing up to 13,500 lbs. with the 5.7L V8, properly equipped. GMC lists Canyon maximum available towing up to 7,700 lbs.
How much bigger is the 2027 Sierra 1500 than the 2027 Canyon?
On GMC Canyon vs Sierra 1500 size, the 2027 Canyon Crew Cab is 213.2 inches long; Sierra Crew Cabs run about 233.1 to 242.6 inches. GMC is direct about the class difference. Its own FAQ answers "No, Canyon is a mid-size pickup truck." The Sierra 1500 is GMC's full-size pickup. That gap shows up most in length, and length is what decides whether the bed hangs into a drive aisle. The photo at the top shows a previous-generation Sierra 1500; the 2027 truck has a new design.
The comparison needs one caution. GMC publishes different measurements for each truck on its 2027 pages. The Canyon page gives length, width with the mirrors folded and wheelbase. The Sierra page gives length by cab and bed, a height range and width with and without mirrors. The table shows what GMC lists on its 2027 Canyon and 2027 Sierra 1500 pages, and where it lists nothing.
| Measure | 2027 Canyon (Crew Cab) | 2027 Sierra 1500 |
|---|---|---|
| Size class | Mid-size | Full-size |
| Overall length | 213.2 in. | About 212.1 in. (Regular Cab, standard bed) to about 242.6 in. (Crew Cab, standard bed) |
| Width | 72.4 in. with mirrors folded | About 81.4 in. without mirrors; about 96.9 in. including mirrors |
| Height | Not listed on GMC's 2027 pages | About 75.2 to 79.6 in., by trim and drivetrain |
| Wheelbase | 131.4 in. | Not listed on GMC's 2027 pages |
| Cab and bed choices | GMC lists dimensions for the Crew Cab with a 5.1 ft. bed | Regular Cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab, with short, standard and long beds by cab |
Source: gmc.com 2027 Canyon and 2027 Sierra 1500 pages, retrieved 10/29/2026. Sierra 1500 figures are GMC's approximate, preproduction figures. GMC gives Canyon width with mirrors folded and Sierra width with and without mirrors, so the widths are not the same measure.

Which 2027 Sierra 1500 cab and bed is the shortest?
The Regular Cab with the standard bed is the shortest 2027 Sierra 1500 GMC lists, at about 212.1 inches. That Regular Cab is close to the Canyon Crew Cab's 213.2 inches. If you need a Crew Cab, that is where the gap opens. The Sierra 1500 Double Cab and the Crew Cab with the short bed both list about 233.1 inches.
| Truck and configuration | Overall length (GMC) | Versus Canyon Crew Cab (our arithmetic) |
|---|---|---|
| Canyon Crew Cab, 5.1 ft. bed | 213.2 in. | Baseline |
| Sierra 1500 Regular Cab, standard bed | About 212.1 in. | About 1.1 in. shorter |
| Sierra 1500 Regular Cab, long bed | About 230.9 in. | About 17.7 in. longer |
| Sierra 1500 Double Cab, standard bed | About 233.1 in. | About 19.9 in. longer |
| Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, short bed | About 233.1 in. | About 19.9 in. longer |
| Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, standard bed | About 242.6 in. | About 29.4 in. longer |
Lengths as listed by GMC on gmc.com for the 2027 model year, retrieved 10/29/2026; Sierra figures are approximate and preproduction. The right-hand column is our own subtraction from those figures, not a GMC statement.
Settle the cab and bed first, since that sets the length. Then compare that exact length with your space. You can see the next-generation truck on our 2027 Sierra 1500 page.
How tall is each truck, and how does that compare with a garage clearance sign?
GMC lists the 2027 Sierra 1500 at about 75.2 to 79.6 inches tall. GMC's 2027 Canyon pages we reviewed list no height. GMC says the Sierra's height depends on trim level and drivetrain. It does not say which trim sits at the top of that range. So check the height of the exact truck you are looking at, not a brochure average. For the Canyon, ask our sales team to look up the figure for a specific truck.
Some trims add a factory lift. GMC lists a 2-inch lift on the Canyon AT4 and Denali, 3 inches on the Canyon AT4X and 4.5 inches on the AT4X AEV Edition. On the 2027 Sierra 1500, GMC lists a 2-inch factory lift on the AT4 and AT4X. Roof-mounted accessories add height too, so count them.
There is one federal clearance figure worth knowing. The 2010 ADA Standards require 98 inches minimum of vertical clearance for van-accessible parking spaces and the routes serving them. That rule covers those spaces and routes only. It does not set the clearance of every level or entrance, so read your building's own posted sign. See section 502.5 at the U.S. Access Board.
How wide are the Canyon and the Sierra 1500 with their mirrors?
GMC lists the 2027 Sierra 1500 at about 96.9 inches including mirrors, and the 2027 Canyon Crew Cab at 72.4 inches, mirrors folded. Those two numbers are not the same measure, so do not subtract one from the other. GMC also lists the Sierra at about 81.4 inches without mirrors. It does not publish a 2027 Canyon width with the mirrors extended on the pages we reviewed.
Width matters in three places in a tower garage. The first is the gap between columns at your space. The second is the space left to open a door next to a neighbor's car. The third is the turn onto a narrow ramp. Measure the narrowest of the three, then compare it with the body and mirror figures for the truck you want.
How do you check whether a pickup will work in your Brickell building?
Read the posted clearance, measure your own space, then match it against GMC's figure for the exact cab and bed you want. GMC does not publish garage fit. These steps are our own advice. They use the figures in this article and a tape measure.
- Read the clearance sign at the entrance. The ADA Standards note that signs at parking-facility entrances informing drivers of clearances can help customers. If there is no sign, ask building management for the lowest clearance on your route.
- Walk your route to the space. Note beams, pipes, sprinklers and signs that hang lower than the entrance clearance. Note the tightest ramp turn and the narrowest column gap.
- Measure the space. Measure its length from the wall or bumper stop to the edge of the drive aisle. Then measure its width between columns or painted lines.
- Match the exact truck. Use GMC's figure for the cab and bed you want, from the tables above. Add any roof accessories, a hitch or a lift.
- Check the building's rules. Some associations set rules on vehicle type or size. Ask for them in writing before you buy.
- Bring your numbers to us. Share your measurements with our sales team, and we can look up the figures for a specific truck.
Keep those notes on your phone. They help you compare any truck, not only these two.
Which parking cameras and sensors does each truck offer?
GMC lists Front and Rear Park Assist as standard on the 2027 Sierra 1500 Pro. It lists up to 10 available Canyon camera views. GMC describes Sierra 1500 Front and Rear Park Assist as alerts of nearby detected vehicles and objects in front of or behind the truck. It is meant to help you park and avoid collisions. An HD Rear Vision Camera is in the same Pro safety suite. GMC says an available camera suite provides up to 19 views, including the Rear Camera Mirror, which is standard on Denali. Underbody cameras with a wash system are standard on the AT4X and Denali Ultimate.
On the 2027 Canyon, GMC lists up to 10 available camera views, including available underbody cameras. Surround View and underbody cameras are standard on the AT4X. The AT4 offers up to 8 available camera views, with Surround View in the Technology Plus Package. GMC also describes Rear Cross Traffic Braking, which alerts you in Reverse and can apply hard emergency braking.
GMC states: "Safety or driver assistance features are no substitute for the driver's responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. The driver should remain attentive to traffic, surroundings and road conditions at all times. Visibility, weather and road conditions may affect feature performance." Its camera note adds: "Always check around the vehicle before driving or parking." Source: gmc.com, 2027 Canyon and Sierra 1500 pages.

Feature lists vary by trim and package, so confirm the equipment on the exact truck. You can compare trucks currently listed on our GMC truck page and in the new GMC showroom.

Contact SalesWhat does the Sierra 1500 offer that the Canyon does not, and the other way around?
The Sierra offers more towing, Regular, Double and Crew Cabs, and available Super Cruise. The Canyon Crew Cab is shorter than any Sierra Crew Cab. GMC lists 2027 Sierra 1500 towing up to 13,500 lbs. with the 5.7L V8, when properly equipped. With the Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel, it lists up to 12,100 lbs. GMC lists Sierra payload up to 2,320 lbs. for the standard bed Regular Cab RWD, and it varies by equipment and configuration. The Canyon tows up to 7,700 lbs., or up to 6,000 lbs. on the AT4X. GMC's 2027 Canyon pages we reviewed do not list payload.

Source: gmc.com 2027 Canyon and 2027 Sierra 1500 pages and GMC Newsroom, 09/22/2026, retrieved 10/29/2026. Towing ratings depend on configuration and equipment. Sierra 1500 information is preproduction. GMC gives Canyon width with mirrors folded and Sierra width with and without mirrors, so the widths are not the same measure.
Super Cruise matters for highway commuters, and GMC says it is not available on the Canyon. Our Super Cruise page notes it works only on compatible roads with clear lane markings. GMC lists it as available on the Sierra 1500 Elevation Crew Cab. It is standard on AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate with a 3-year OnStar One plan. For other matchups, see our GMC comparisons.
How do Miami heat, rain and hurricane season fit into the choice?
Miami heat, rain and storms change where a truck parks, not GMC's figures. Plan covered parking, and never treat ground clearance as a flood rating. Strong sun, heavy rain and hurricane season are part of owning any vehicle in Miami. In a Brickell, Downtown Miami or Edgewater tower, a covered space shields a truck from sun and rain. A truck that suits your assigned space can stay under cover every day.
GMC lists 9.6 inches of ground clearance for the Canyon AT4 and 10.7 inches for the AT4X. Ground clearance is not a water-fording rating, and we did not find a GMC fording depth on the pages we reviewed. Our advice: do not drive either truck into standing water. Turn around and find another route.

Drivers in The Roads, Little Havana, Coconut Grove and Key Biscayne face the same question in different buildings. Townhome garages, condo towers and street parking each set a different limit. Browse the Sierra 1500 in Miami, see our GMC dealer page for Miami, or view the Sierra 1500 near Doral.
Which truck suits which Brickell driver?
Choose the Canyon if a tight space sets the limit. Choose the Sierra 1500 if towing or cab size matter more and your space allows. Here is how we would match the two trucks to common Brickell situations, using GMC's figures.
- Condo tower with a tight assigned space. The Canyon Crew Cab's 213.2-inch length is about 19.9 inches shorter than the shortest Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, by our arithmetic from GMC's figures.
- Bigger cab plus heavier towing. The Sierra 1500 offers a Crew Cab, and GMC lists towing up to 13,500 lbs. with the 5.7L V8 when properly equipped.
- Shortest full-size choice. The Sierra 1500 Regular Cab with the standard bed lists about 212.1 inches.
- Long highway drives with hands-free assistance. Super Cruise is available on some Sierra 1500 trims, and GMC says it is not available on the Canyon.
Timing matters for the Sierra. GMC says the first 2027 Sierra 1500 models are expected to arrive at GMC dealerships before the end of the 2026 calendar year. GMC's pages note that preproduction models are shown. The 2026 Sierra 1500 is the previous generation with different dimensions. GMC lists the 2026 Crew Cab standard bed at 241.45 inches long, with a 157.00-inch wheelbase. Check the model year on any truck you consider.

No. GMC answers this question directly: "No, Canyon is a mid-size pickup truck." The Sierra 1500 is GMC's full-size pickup. By GMC's 2027 figures, the Canyon Crew Cab is 213.2 inches long. A Sierra 1500 Crew Cab is about 233.1 to 242.6 inches, depending on the bed.
Will a Sierra 1500 work in my condo garage?
Only your measurements can answer that. Neither GMC nor we can confirm a truck for a specific building. Read the posted clearance, measure your space and route, then compare them with GMC's figures for the exact cab and bed. The 2010 ADA Standards set 98 inches minimum for van parking spaces and their routes; that is not every garage's clearance.
Does the GMC Canyon have Super Cruise?
No. GMC says Super Cruise is not available on the Canyon. On the 2027 Sierra 1500, GMC lists Super Cruise as available on the Elevation Crew Cab. It is standard on AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate, with a 3-year OnStar One plan. Our Super Cruise page notes it works only on compatible roads with clear lane markings.

Are the 2026 and 2027 Sierra 1500 the same size?
No. The 2027 Sierra 1500 is a new generation. GMC lists the 2026 Crew Cab standard bed at 241.45 inches long with a 157.00-inch wheelbase and 81.24 inches wide. For 2027, GMC lists the Crew Cab standard bed at about 242.6 inches. Always match the figures to the model year.
How heavy is the 2027 GMC Canyon?
GMC says the curb weight range for an unloaded 2027 GMC Canyon is 4,410 lbs. to 4,960 lbs. Weight varies by trim and equipment. If your building sets a weight limit for its parking levels or ramps, ask management for it. Then compare it with the figure for the exact truck you are considering.
Which Canyon trims have a factory lift?
GMC lists a 2-inch factory lift on the Canyon AT4 and Denali. The AT4X gets 3 inches, and the AT4X AEV Edition 4.5 inches. Ground clearance is 9.6 inches on the AT4 and 10.7 inches on the AT4X. GMC does not list a 2027 Canyon height on the pages we reviewed, so ask for the figure on the exact truck.
